Two morans battle with lions

Two Morans are nursing serious wounds after being mauled by a lion as they were trying to scare it away with spears in kitengela. According to the Kenya Wildlife Services’ spokesperson Paul Mbugua, the two were overpowered by the big cat which had escaped from the park and mauled them leaving them with deep wounds.

He said that because they are wanted to record statements, the two morans have been taken to an unknown location to avoid imminent arrest. The spokesman said that the lion is believed to have gone back to the Nairobi National Park.

"It appears the lions are now avenging for their lost ones after the morans killed a family of six in the nearby farms after they invaded a manyatta, killed and ate sheep and goats,’’ said Mbugua.

The village elders maintained silence over the matter declining to talk to journalists because of a resolution by the residents that required them to avoid media attention.

However one elder who sought anonymity confirmed that the two morans are recovering from the wounds inflicted by the lions. This case comes after another one last week in Loitoktok where two morans were attacked and injured in their manyatta.

The numbers of cases are increasing but one that caught the public interest is one where six lions were killed by residents of Kitengela following lion attacks on their livestock.
